1958 - Establishment
Rotor BV was founded in 1958 in The Hague, where Mr. Th.M. Kraakman started importing MEZ electric motors from Czechoslovakia. There appeared to be a growing market in the industry for standard electric motors. Due to the strong increase in turnover and stock, the housing always turned out to be too small. Due to a lack of local expansion opportunities and the shortage of expert personnel, the company had to move.
1974 - Relocation
In 1974, Rotor BV moved to Eibergen. The basis was also laid here for the production of special electric motors. The Rotor nl® electric motor was born. The electrical and mechanical properties of these electric motors are tailored to the specific applications and operating conditions such as the shipping, offshore and petrochemical industry. These industries set increasingly higher requirements for standard electric motors (including efficiency, noise level and maintenance), which is why Rotor BV decided to also produce these electric motors itself.
1983 - Expansion
In 1983, the first pile was driven for the construction of new production halls with an area of approximately 4000 m2. In the meantime, Rotor BV had grown into a company with 80 employees, a building complex the size of four football fields and a stock of thousands of electric motors.
1997- Rotor Belgium
In April 1997, Rotor BV opened a branch in Gent-Drongen, Belgium to further strengthen the position of Rotor BV abroad. This branch has been continued since January 1, 2008 under the name Rotec Motors and Gears BVBA, under the direction of Mr M. Dhoedt. All relations of Rotor BV from Belgium, Luxembourg and France can directly contact this office for all technical and commercial information.
2004 - Rotor expands with Rotor UK
In May 2004, Rotor BV takes over all activities and employees of the electric motors division of Exico Limited in Wellington, Great Britain. The company will continue under the name Rotor UK Ltd. Through this acquisition, Rotor BV significantly increased market share in Great Britain, became an internationally visible player and allows Rotor BV to serve its existing British customers even better and faster.
2005 - Introduction of the Rotor nl® Flameproof Electric Motor
For environments with a risk of explosion, electric motors are available in types 3RD and 4RD in accordance with CENELEC EN 50014, EN 50018 and EN 50019 standards (IEC 79-0, IEC 79-1). Rotor BV is an ATEX certified company. Rotor BV is the first company in drive technology that complies with the provisions of the European directive ATmospheres EXplosives (ATEX directive 94/9 / EC).
2005 - Implementation of New ERP System
On October 1, 2005, we switched to a new ERP system “Microsoft Dynamics Business Solution”. The implementation of the new ERP system contributes to a further increase in productivity.
2006 - Management Buy-out at Rotor BV in Eibergen
The current management of Rotor BV reached agreement with the shareholders on a management buy-out as of January 1, 2006. The buy-out ensures the continuity and growth of Rotor BV.
2007 - Renewed Layout of the Production Lines
Thanks to a strong growth in turnover (> 50% period 2004-2006), our production facility got a renewed layout. Thanks to these new production lines, Rotor BV is again able to grow further and continue to meet the needs of its customers.
2010- Acquisition by Regal Beloit Corporation
In September, 2010 it was announced that the shares of Rotor BV have been sold to the American Regal Beloit (RBC). The acquisition gives RBC a larger market share in Europe and gives Rotor BV new opportunities under the parent company. The takeover is an opportunity for further growth and development of Rotor BV.

Rotor BV is a leading supplier of electric motors for some of the most demanding applications throughout the world. Rotor is headquartered in Eibergen, The Netherlands, and has production, sales, engineering, and service facilities throughout Europe and Asia. Rotor nl® meets the demands of various marine classification bureaus, including Lloyd’s, DNV, GL, ABS, CCS, RMRS, RRR, RINA, NKK, and KRS.
Rotor can supply the complete drive according to clients' specifications for a variety of applications, such as pumps, ventilation systems, davits, cranes, port machinery, hydraulic systems, compressors, and various other pieces of equipment.
