Above NEMA Motor Basics
Above NEMA motors, sometimes also known as ANEMA motors, are large AC low, medium or high voltage motors. While NEMA & IEC regulated motors typically run through 500hp respectively, Above NEMA motors can range upwards to 10,000hp.
Since there are not predetermined frame sizes to match these motors, Above NEMA motors are not regulated in the same way that NEMA motors are. Instead, each manufacturer has their own standards and specifications that Above NEMA motors are built around.
Where Are Above NEMA Motors Used?
So where can you expect to find these biggest of the big industrial motors? Generally speaking, Above NEMA motors are found in any place with a need for additional horsepower capabilities. While this can vary as far as specific industries, we often see this type of industrial motor in refrigeration, paper or pulp mills, and mining operations.
