The Genteq® Fronteer™ Drive is an innovative new hybrid drive for the residential HVAC space. The drive switches between variable-speed operation and line power, increasing efficiency at a lower total system cost. Fronteer runs both the compressor and fan motors on outdoor units. The drive is available in two versions, one for up to 3T systems, the other for systems up to 5T. The Fronteer Drive is the ideal solution to increase SEER in the mid-tier market segment.
The Fronteer Drive borrows from Regal Rexnord’s electronics controls expertise, and can be trusted for industry-leading efficiency, reliability, and versatility.
Efficient
Fronteer enhances system performance by adding the most SEER per dollar of cost. The Fronteer drive boosts efficiency significantly on non-variable compressors, allowing OEMs to avoid derating systems under changing regulatory standards. Customers and third-party tests have confirmed 2-5 pointSEER improvements by adding Fronteer (depending on type of compressor, fan motor, and system size).

Improved System Design
Fronteer allows for significant system benefits during design, maximizing equipment performance while reducing costs and streamlining assembly. Even when switching to a cheaper compressor, Fronteer can create a more premium unit. Fronteer draws more efficiency from a PSC or BLDC fan motor. Additionally, Fronteer reduces the drive’s footprint in the control panel and removes the need for some other components.
Operability
The Fronteer drive improves system operation while adding extra features. Fronteer’s soft start increases system reliability. By replacing certain components, Fronteer also removes potential failure points. It reduces cycling in the system and increases homeowner comfort as well through its variable operation.
