Automotive assembly plants feature highly-automated production lines. These lines don’t just build cars, but they test output as well. Test lines and tunnels simulate rain and water ingress into automobiles. The conveyors that move automobiles along these lines require ease of maintenance, reduced wear, increased uptime, enhanced safety, limited mistracking and fast component changeover.
Problem and Solution
The particular dual strand test tunnel simulated environmental conditions that the manufacturer’s car would encounter on highways all around the globe. Even in conditions like rain and sleet that would be directly sprayed over and under the body carriage, the belting had to be impervious to extreme conditions and offer low maintenance, reduced wear, and increased uptime.

A number of Regal Rexnord Brands contributed to the final line. A System Plast® modular belt system served as the base of the line. This modular belt used extra heavy-duty belting that incorporated molded one-piece sprockets with a polygonal shape to provide optimum belt support. A unique design feature of the belting is a clip that retains the pins to allow for easy installation, but, more importantly, can be removed with a simple hammer and screw driver. This proved to decrease downtime on change out.
