The customer, an OEM, made equipment for critical reverse osmosis filtration processes. The process depends on motors that must have high efficiency, variable speed, corrosion resistance, a high ambient temperature and the ability to operate around the clock. The customer was concerned about motor reliability and operating costs caused by high energy use. A motor that operates at higher speed could potentially improve throughput and achieve higher operating savings.

The OEM chose a highly-efficient specially-coated electric motor. The motor, typically reserved for above-deck marine applications, also had special seals and precision balancing to reduce cavitation of the pump. Thanks to higher efficiencies, the cost savings alone will pay for the motor in less than a year. Other features, like additional service factor and a patented insulation system will reduce downtime in the higher ambient environment.
