The packaging machinery manufacturing industry makes equipment that protects and transports goods at production facilities and warehouses in a number of industries. The industry makes equipment for wrapping, canning, bottling, and labelling for food and beverage end markets. The industry also manufactures thermoform, blister, and skin packaging machinery for the household goods, pharmaceutical and medical device industries.
This particular customer was an OEM that made equipment for packaging lines. The customer as looking for an innovative system to sort packages to and from different lines.
Problem and Solution
The existing line conveyed boxes with 120mm width X 100mm length and weight of 750 grams. Throughput was 100 packs per minute. The existing system featured a mechanical/pneumatic system requiring mechanical adjustments. The system also required an air source and created a possible safety hazard while in operation.
A number of Regal Rexnord brands worked in synergy to provide a solution including gearing and bearing products, conveying solutions, and electric motors to keep the line in motion

The System Plast® 1/2“ diameter ball LFB2253RT roller top belting was the core of a new machine concept. Hub City™ HERA® geardrives delivered short payback, reduced inventory and longer life. Kop-Flex® couplings are able to provide years of trouble-free performance.
The new solution culminated in a conveyor shortened by 500mm and the ability to provide the same sortation functions and an overall cost reduction of approximately 15% over the previous design. Safety was also improved as mechanical rollers and pusher blocks were eliminated, removing pinch points.
