An OEM was using a belted NEMA Premium® induction motor in conjunction with a Variable Frequency Drive (VFD) in their fan assembly that delivered adequate performance, but their end user demanded higher efficiencies and direct drive (elimination of the belt system). A completely new approach to providing these efficiencies was required.

Additionally, the OEM can eliminate the belt and sheave system that was previously used as a torque multiplier along with reducing the ventilator’s weight and size due to the motor’s direct drive technology.
