Program Analyzes Cylindrical Roller Bearings Under Various Conditions
Cylindrical roller bearings are essential components in many mission-critical applications. These bearings support heavy loads and reduce friction. By design, they facilitate mounting and dismounting. They handle a wide range of load and speed conditions over varying time intervals. You’ll find them in:
- gearboxes,
- electric motors,
- construction equipment,
- off-highway vehicles,
- heavy-duty truck transmissions,
- military systems, and
- fluid handling equipment like pumps.
Cylindrical roller bearings have high radial load capacity and compact design. These factors make them ideal for space-constrained environments. They also come in multiple configurations to suit different application needs. This is especially true where both races are an interference fit on their seating. Rolling elements create a line contact with the raceways and can handle high radial loads. These bearings typically use cage separated rollers, allowing for higher operating speeds. Cylindrical roller bearings can also accept incidental to light thrust loads.
Picking the right piece of equipment is an important part of any application. This is especially true for cylindrical roller bearings.
Choosing the Right Bearing for System Life
Selecting the right bearing to meet a system’s life requirement can be challenging. The usual definition of system life requirement is 90 percent reliability. To simplify this process, Regal Rexnord has developed an internal analysis program.
This program evaluates how a bearing performs under a specific duty cycle. It calculates the likelihood that the chosen bearing will meet the system’s life expectations. One key factor considered is the crowning of the rings and rollers. This affects how loads are distributed based on the bearing’s geometry.
Customizing the crowning of the rolling elements and raceways, can help engineers fine tune a bearing to match application demands.
Importance of Internal Bearing Clearance
The program also helps determine the correct internal clearance for the bearing. Internal clearance plays a critical role in how loads are distributed across the bearing. Clearance affects contact deflection, stress levels, and the bearing’s operating temperature.
Choosing the right clearance is essential for ensuring reliability and optimal performance. An incorrect clearance can lead to uneven load distribution, increased wear, and reduced bearing life.
