To meet these new standards, most pumps must be variable speed. Despite this, single-speed motors aren’t going anywhere. They are still readily available to repair your existing single-speed pump. Overall, the industry is shifting towards variable speed motor technology.

In 2021, California implemented new rules for replacement swimming pool pump motors. Under Title 20 Section 1605.3(g)(6), all replacement dedicated-purpose pool pump motors (RDPPPM) with a dedicated-purpose pool motor total horsepower greater than or equal to 0.5 hp manufactured on or after July 19, 2021 shall be variable-speed replacement dedicated-purpose pool pump motors. VGreenEVO™ motors comply with all current California RDPPPM rules. California's Modernized Appliance Efficiency Database System lists VGreenEVO motors as approved products.
