Replace Your Induction Pool Motor Sooner Than Later
When it comes to motors, variable speed is the future. As a producer of electric motors for the indoor/outdoor pool and spa motor market, we strive to deliver technology for consumers. We want to make your experience easier, smarter, and lighter on the budget.
When new tech emerges, it’s difficult to evaluate the real value and return on investment versus what you already own. Most consumers follow the mindset, “if it’s not broke, don’t fix it.” Thinking that way comes with drawbacks and disadvantages you may not even realize. If a flat screen TV took up less space, gave a better picture and helped you save energy, would you still shop for a box TV? Probably not.
Just as technology has improved the experience of owning a TV, it's had an impact on electric motors. When it comes to you spa or pool pump motor, getting ahead of the curve will benefit you, your system, and your wallet.
The Industry is Changing (Pump Regulations)
In 2021, the U.S. Definitive Purpose Pool Pump Regulation (DPPP) took effect. Specific to pumps used in swimming pools, DPPP requires pool pumps to meet new energy standards. To meet these new standards, most pumps must be variable speed. Despite this, single-speed motors aren’t going anywhere. They are still readily available to repair your existing single-speed pump. Overall, the industry is shifting towards variable speed motor technology.
For pool pumps, variable speed technology regulates the motor, telling it to operate when the pump needs it the most. This allows the pool system to operate at a higher efficiency. Overall, variable speed motors consume less energy, run quieter, and last longer than single-speed motors.

Retrofit Your Existing Single-Speed Pump with a Variable Speed Motor
There is currently no federal* replacement swimming pool pump motor regulation. However, if you want to upgrade, many variable speed options are available. Upgrading your existing single-speed pump to an energy efficient variable speed pump is easy. All you need to do is install a variable speed replacement motor like VGreen EVO™! A motor upgrade is a cost-effective solution to upgrading a pool pump. Upgrading the pump gives users the energy-saving benefits of variable speed technology. What's more, a replacement motor costs a fraction of a new variable speed pump.
*California Replacement Dedicated-Purpose Pool Pump Motors (RDPPPM) Title 20 Section 1605.3(g)(6):
In 2021, California implemented new rules for replacement swimming pool pump motors. Under Title 20 Section 1605.3(g)(6), all replacement dedicated-purpose pool pump motors (RDPPPM) with a dedicated-purpose pool motor total horsepower greater than or equal to 0.5 hp manufactured on or after July 19, 2021 shall be variable-speed replacement dedicated-purpose pool pump motors. VGreenEVO™ motors comply with all current California RDPPPM rules. California's Modernized Appliance Efficiency Database System lists VGreenEVO motors as approved products.
Motor Functionality and Control
When new technology hits the market, the ideal new product marries simplicity and versatility. Customers want to know their next solution won’t be more of a headache than a help to their applications.
For electric motors, it doesn't get more standard than an induction motor. The Century® VGreen EVO™ motor is a sophisticated product. Like other variable speed motors, the VGreen EVO is quieter than standard induction motors. It also delivers the ease of an induction motor with a single-button interface for programming.
The VGreen EVO™ motor offers a multitude of operating modes such as override, pause, schedule check, and schedule set, all at the push of a button.
Working For Your Schedule
Smart technology has transformed the way we interact with our possessions both inside and outside of the home.
From smart refrigerators to Bluetooth-enabled thermostats, our homes are becoming smart factories. Consumers are constantly looking for devices that can think for themselves. Smart devices help us keep up with our already busy day-to-day lives.
Another reason customers love the VGreen EVO™ motor is its scheduling flexibility. Owners can schedule their VGreen EVO™ motor to run around their schedule. Users can can choose between eight unique schedule sets. These sets fit their pool system, activity, and summer schedule.
Efficiency and How Variable Speed is Best
Variable speed motors varying the motor speed to meet the load requirements of the application. This technology reduces the time a motor runs and the rate at which it operates. In turn, homeowners cut their energy bills and increase the lifetime of their motor.
Compare that to an induction motor offering only on/off capabilities. These motors only know one RPM and run at that speed regardless of the need of the pool pump.
Variable Speed Motors and Return on Investment
The biggest hesitation from homeowners considering an upgrade is the initial price of a variable speed motor. But comparing the two, variable speed technology can deliver up to 80% more efficiency. This energy savings allows homeowners to reduce their environmental footprint and conserve energy unnecessarily used by induction pool motors. Compared to a standard induction motor, products like the Century® VGreen EVO™ variable speed motor help offset this initial cost.
Take Part in the Benefits
It’s never too early to upgrade your induction pool pump motor to variable speed technology. Motors like the VGreen EVO™ make programming intuitive, customizable, and efficient. That gives you more time to enjoy your pool system and less time worrying about your noisy, energy-hogging induction motor.
