Rex® Extreme Performance HS Roller Chain
New Extreme Performance Roller Chain designed especially for round baler applications as a drive chain.
The new Extreme Performance HS Roller Chain is designed to address these common customer needs:
- Improved wear resistance in round balers in highly loaded drives
- Increased maintenance interval
- No chain failure in the harvest season
- Compatibility according to ISO 606, ANSI B29.1
These chains are designed with several goals in mind, including improved fatigue strength of the chain pin, optimized wear resistance of the chain link, increased total long-life fatigue limit under impact loads and higher breaking load due to the modification of the plate shape and the plate thickness.
The use of special steel for plates and pins reaches an enhanced strength with a good ductility after heat treatment.
Special manufacturing processes and features:
- Grinding and intense shot peening of the pin
- Bore hole calibration of the plates to avoid crack initiation at highly stressed points
- High preloading of the chain for tremendous dynamic stress
- Calibrating of the inner links for an increased contact area between the bushing and the pin, which leads to a reduced inlet elongation.
- Long-term lubrication with synthetic solid lubricants for high wear protection
- Special conditioning of the pin surface to get a perfect adhesion of the synthetic solids
The HS version combines the advantages of the HE- and H-series, making it the best choice for extreme applications with different chain performance requirements.

Thomas Gontermann started with Regal Rexnord in 2006 as an Application Engineer. In this role, Thomas worked with different functions including design engineering and product management. Currently, Thomas is a Senior Application Engineer supporting Regal Rexnord´s leaf and roller chain business, and other conveying customers; he provides chain selection and product recommendations, field service, and training for distributer and maintenance staff.
