Evergreen® DS Motor
The Evergreen® DS dual shaft motor easily replaces most permanent split capacitor (PSC) motors in modular building applications. Designed to replace direct drive, dual shaft induction motors found in HVAC indoor blower motor applications with forward curved (squirrel cage) blower wheels
Motor Minute™ Technical Tip – Genteq® Evergreen® DS Motors
Hi, Chris from Regal Rexnord here with your Motor Minute technical tip. Helping you become an HVAC motor pro one minute at a time.
In this segment of motor minute, I would like to introduce you to the Evergreen DS motor.
This is going to seem like an odd way to begin a discussion about a motor, but bear with me.
Since the pandemic there has been a lot of industry talk about air filter MERV* ratings. MERV 13 has become the recommended air filter rating from multiple sources, including EPA and ASHRAE®** to support Indoor Air Quality (IAQ).

Replacing lower MERV rated air filters with higher MERV rated air filters, without increasing the area of the filter, will increase the resistance to the flow of air, measured as static pressure or pressure drop.
In an HVAC system with a PSC indoor blower motor, increased static pressure will result in decreased airflow at the same motor speed.
If you don’t have the ability to increase the size of the air filter, you will need more fan power to move the correct amount of air through an air filter with a higher MERV rating.
This is where today’s topic begins.
The Evergreen DS constant torque ECM motor was built specifically for HVAC units with PSC dual shaft indoor blower motors where the size of the filter is not easily altered.
In applications where buildings with these types of HVAC units are occupied by people, Evergreen DS constant torque ECM motors help make it possible to upgrade the air filter rating to support a healthier environment.
Modular buildings used for:
- Schools
- Amusement parks
- Site buildings
