Motor Minute™ Technical Tip – Outdoor Fan Motor Drain Plugs
Hi, Chris from Regal Rexnord here with your Motor Minute technical tip. Helping you become an HVAC motor pro one minute at a time.
In this segment we will discuss outdoor fan motor drain plugs.
Drain holes are built into outdoor fan motors to allow condensation or any accumulated moisture to drain out of the motor.
Universal replacement motors that are built for all angle mounting are often built with drain holes, located on each end of the motor, that are plugged from the factory.
Remove the drain plug that is facing down or towards the ground and leave the drain plug installed that is facing up or towards the sky, regardless of how the motor is oriented.
If the motor is installed horizontally, orient the motor so that both drain holes are between 4 and 8 o-clock and remove both drain plugs.
