About Us
Elco manufactures and distributes electric motors for use in commercial refrigeration and also in heating, ventilation and air conditioning units, this segment is better known as "HVAC-R".
Strategically located with manufacturing facilities in Italy, Brazil and China, with sales offices in Russia, UAE, Singapore, Mexico and Columbia and thanks to a widespread presence in North America, Australia and South Africa granted by being part of the Regal Rexnord Corporation, ELCO is selling in more than 80 Countries in the world even through a dense network of local agents and distributors.
In 1998 ELCO presented its first electronic commuted motor or ECM, a high efficiency energy saving motor designed for the commercial refrigeration world. If compared to the traditional shaded pole motors or PSC, the efficiency of the ECM motor is definitely higher and can reduce the consumptions up to one-third. This range of motor promptly received the approval of a significant number of food retailers and OEMs, this thanks to the concrete possibility to reduce the energy costs and especially to the several economic benefits that can be generated in the long term. With over 4 million units sold worldwide, the market of these motors is expected to grow, expanding its use to the HVAC market sector.
History
The Group’s origins date back to 1954, when the Colombo family founded Elettromeccanica F.lli Colombo di Vittorio, initially manufacturing electric motors for small electrical appliances in Italy.
Through the years the Group made a name for itself as a leading manufacturer of electric motors for the commercial refrigeration. Now the group has emerged also in the sector of the HVAC-R products.
In 1982 the first assembling plant was established abroad, in Spain. Subsequently a manufacturing plant was set up in Brazil in 1998 and in China in 2002.
Presently, the Group employs approximately 800 people of which about 160 employed at the plant of Inzago, located between Bergamo and Milan, whose area is of about 40.000 m² and holds the manufacturing plant, as well as the top management, the sales, the administration and R&D departments.
Research and Development
Elco’s Research and Development Department based in Inzago - Italy, is where the company works alongside clients to develop, test and fit motors into their products. Working in partnership with clients regarding the design and testing of product development is one of Elco’s key aspect strategies, and remains one of the company’s core values.
With a team of 15 engineers, each Elco product is designed by qualified and experienced personnel using 2D and 3D CAD stations and equipped lab testing and tunning. Elco’s R&D Department contains a fully equipped lab for electrical and mechanical testing and life expectancy testing - which is performed in climate rooms to simulate extreme working conditions. Furthermore, the lab is capable of air-flow tests performed to AMCA standards.
The Development and retention of intellectual property enables Elco to stay at the forefront of motor technology and create new market opportunities. This has been, and remains, the company’s policy.
