One of our distribution customers offers a variety of products impacting applications such as poultry across the country. Their presence in this segment allows them to supply crucial and in-demand products that influence consumers at every stage of the value chain.
Whether it be stainless steel bearings for added protection within washdown environments, beverage hoses with protective layering to avoid bacteria build up, or electric motors with varied degrees of washdown protection, can support businesses. For decades this distributor has been committed to driving out cost and time efficiency up for their customers. However, finding safe and efficient machinery for poultry processing is easier said than done.
Securing reasonably priced machinery for a business is one thing but that must be balanced with ensuring downtime in the future also can be avoided or minimized.
Choosing the Right Washdown Product
Working with the distributor, we learned about their concern over downtime and motor replacements in poultry processing environments. We know replacing a motor in production is imminent, but reducing the frequency of those replacements can be helped with quality products.
Our distribution customer faced concern over stocking washdown motors that balanced protection against high-pressure sanitization and operational efficiency. With the amount of cleaning products in poultry processing, it is common for motors to face water and chemical contamination or ineffective sanitation that leads to bacterial buildup. Without the proper motor and ingress protection, equipment is more prone to breakdown.
With potential downtime of great concern, the distributor needed a solution that would extend the life of equipment in production. One hour of unplanned downtime costs a processing facility anywhere between $30,000-$50,000. Anywhere they can combat this downtime would allow them to fulfill their goals of driving out cost and time efficiencies up for their customers.
Not Your Ordinary Washdown Motor
Robco Inc. worked with the distribution customer to find a motor solution that would withstand harsh conditions that many motors deal within poultry processing applications. After careful consideration, Robco Inc. introduced the LEESON® Extreme Duck® Ultra motor to the distributor.
This was not only a motor that withstood washdown, but it offered full stainless-steel encapsulation with the highest ingress protection (IP) on the market, an IP69K rating. That made it the perfect candidate for washdown environments the distributor supplies product to. Greater exterior and insulation protection would inherently lead to motor longevity, but that is not all from the Extreme Duck® Ultra.

With a product like the Extreme Duck® Ultra, the distribution customer was able to deliver a high-impact solution to their customers that saved time and resources otherwise lost due to downtime.
