Replacing Most Commonly Failed HVAC Motors
Knowing Your Options When HVAC Motors Fail
Today's HVAC equipment provides comfort and efficiency largely due to motors that are operating more hours than ever before due to multi-stage equipment, dehumidification profiles and continuous fan for IAQ (Indoor Air Quality). When these motors fail, the system is down until a replacement motor can be installed. Depending on the season this failure could be the indoor blower motor, outdoor condenser fan motor or draft inducer blower. Knowing your options when it comes to replacing these motors and blowers will help you get the job done the same day which will lead to more satisfied customers.

Situation #1: Replacing PSC Motors
Many customers feel that PSC motors used in indoor blower motors are too noisy and cost too much money to run. They would prefer an alternative that uses less energy and reduces continuous fan noise.Genteq® Evergreen® IM motors are high-efficiency ECM replacement motors designed to replace inefficient PSC motors in HVAC indoor blower motor applications. These applications include residential and light commercial furnaces, air handlers and package systems with existing 6-pole 1075 RPM rated PSC motors. ECM replacement motors are up to 25% more efficient than PSC motors during the heating and cooling demands. Replacing a standard PSC motor with an Evergreen IM motor can also help to increase indoor air quality (IAQ). IAQ accessories work best while the system blower is on and circulating the air through the IAQ devices. ECM indoor blower motors can operate continuously, efficiently, and at lower RPMs with minimal energy usage, allowing customers to run constant fan to optimize IAQ accessories and improve indoor air quality. In fact, an Evergreen IM motor is 75% more efficient in continuous fan mode than a PSC motor.
Evergreen IM motors are easy to install and connect directly to existing HVAC system controls. They include the complete wiring harness and connectors, a simple plug to select voltage rating, and automatic rotation sensing technology. With the Evergreen IM motor, no capacitors are required.
With just two Evergreen IM motors, contractors can replace up to 16 of the most common HVAC ratings for indoor blower motor applications. This ability to reduce truck stock means that jobs can be completed the same day, without driving all over town to get parts.
Situation #2: Replacing ECM Motors
When replacing an existing ECM indoor blower motor, Evergreen EM and VS motors are easy to install universal replacements. They replace millions of OEM ECM motors in most HVAC OEM equipment.
Constant Airflow (Variable Speed) ECM Motors
Evergreen VS motors are designed to replace Genteq (including models formerly branded GE® or GE ECM by Regal Beloit) constant airflow (variable speed) ECM indoor blower motors. The Evergreen VS product line is designed specifically to replace Genteq models 2.0, 2.3, 2.5, EON® and 3.0. These motors represent the largest volume of variable speed motors used to date in HVAC indoor blower motor applications.
Constant Torque ECM Motors
The Evergreen EM motor is a drop-in replacement for OEM constant torque ECM indoor blower motors such as Genteq X13 and Endura® Pro motors, US Motors® SelecTech® and Rescue Select®, and Broad Ocean® motors with 24 VAC speed taps. The Evergreen EM motor is pre-programmed at the factory and built with the same standard 9-terminal plug as the motors listed above, which makes it compatible with the OEM harness.
Outdoor Condenser Fan Motors
With one Genteq Evergreen OM motor, contractors can replace up to 16 common HVAC ratings for PSC and shaded pole outdoor condenser fan motor applications. They connect directly to existing controls, allowing for ease of installation. This versatility makes it easy to reduce truck stock, save time, and get the job done for your customers.
Draft Inducer Blowers
Today’s energy-efficient gas furnaces and water heaters use induced draft blowers as an integral part of the combustion process. All furnaces are designed with uniquely engineered blowers for each application. This makes it important to use exact replacements that match the original draft inducer blower for safety reasons.
FASCO® draft inducer blowers are designed to meet OEM specifications and are tested to match OEM performance requirements. This means that you get a factory match that will restore the equipment to full and safe operating conditions.
Regardless of the season, Regal Rexnord has you covered. We offer universal parts that can fix these common motor and blower failures while offering additional benefits to both you and your customers. These universal parts are often more economical than the Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) part as well.
