The Big Picture

Problem Needing Solved
One of North America’s leading producers of salads and healthy fresh foods experienced issues with their legacy stainless steel motors. The cost of ownership for the electric motors was not sustainable for the durability and six-month operating life they delivered.
Our Solution
Regal and our partners at Applied Industrial Technologies stepped in with a highlight feature from the Extreme Duck® Ultra motor, the Q-Car™ rotor cartridge. Outside of the Extreme Duck® motor’s IP69 rating, its removable and replaceable rotor cartridge won praise with the company. In under ten minutes, a technician could go onto the production line, unscrew the end shield, replace the rotor cartridge, and still maintain the motor’s IP69 rating. At a third of the cost of the new motor, replacing the rotor cartridge opens up a completely new value-add for the business- saving time, money, and disposal resources on failed motors.
With added reassurance of the Extreme Duck® motor’s IP69 rating, the business could go about their sanitation measures without concern over damaging the motor.
Impact Made Today
Five years have passed since the Extreme Duck® was implemented into the facility, and the motors have been rebuilt five or six times, paying for themselves many times over in cost savings compared to their legacy motors. The low cost of ownership allows companies like this food packaging business to reinvest in their production equipment and positively impact their bottom line.
After the proven success of the Extreme Duck®, the company has decided to migrate the motor into additional applications around their plant.
